December 2016

Wood Street Mission

Each December we collect toys for the Wood Street Mission. Here are a few of the beautiful toys that were sent into school.

We are very grateful to all our families and friends who have supported us this term with their very generous donations of money and gifts.

Barnado’s

In December, we collected for the Barnado’s team at Wythenshawe Sure Start Centre. The collections after the Nativity performances raised £750, and the Christmas coffee morning raised £250 for the same cause. We also collected these groceries and toiletries to be distributed at Christmas.

Harvest Mass

After our Harvest Mass, we sent a large amount of the food we collected to ‘Revive’, a charity which looks after refugees. They were delighted with our donations and sent a hand-made card to thank us.

NSPCC Talk

In October, Helen Redman from the NSPCC came to talk to us about staying safe. We raised £2000 for her charity by doing a sponsored spell.

Guide Dogs

This year we helped several puppies to be trained as Guide Dogs for the Blind. We raised a total of £1500 through doing a sponsored spell

Glow For Guide Dogs

After meeting these amazing animals first hand the girls were motivated to raise funds to sponsor their work. A staggering £1337.66 was raised in no time at all.

Francis House Children’s Hospice

Before Christmas we sold soft toys for Francis House Children’s Hospice and raised £620 for them. Fundraiser Kate came to collect the cheque.

Toys for the Wood Street Mission

Our girls and parents collected toys for the Wood Street Mission. The centre helps children and families living in Manchester and Salford with everyday items most of us take for granted. At this time of year we make a special effort to provide toys for children who would otherwise be without presents at Christmas

Francis House Charity

Kate from the Francis House charity came to talk to the girls about the work that goes on there supporting sick children and their families. We hope to raise money for them by selling cuddly toys.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The Macmillan Coffee Morning was a great success. Many parents took part in the organisation of the morning and the baking of cakes. The children had a lot of fun choosing their cakes. We raised the magnificent sum of £700!

Harvest Mass

We celebrated the Harvest Mass with Father John from St Vincent’s Parish. The many beautiful gifts were distributed by our girls and their parents, or were taken to the Revive and Cornerstone charities in Manchester.

£1500 raised for Revive Charity

Sister Eileen McConnon received a cheque for £1500 on behalf of Revive, a Manchester based charity which works with refugees and asylum seekers. Loreto Preparatory School pupils also remembers them at Harvest time.

Cornerstone presented with £2000 cheque

A member of the charity Cornerstone, a day centre providing services to adults facing a wide range of social issues in Manchester, came to the school to receive a cheque for the money we had raised for them.
