Prep 4: Week 7
Date: 10th Jun 2020 @ 9:24pm
Prep 4 Class Blog Week Beginning 2nd June 2020
After the half term holiday, the Prep 4 girls quickly settled down to their schoolwork challenges and, as always, produced some amazing finished pieces. Also, to keep informed about the latest news around the world the girls viewed Newsround, although some do already subscribe to, ‘The Week Junior’ at home.
In Maths this week the girls used their estimation skills before using the formal written methods to calculate addition and subtraction. As some of the subtraction problems involved amounts of money in £00s, they had to borrow from both the tens and hundreds columns for the first time, which can be quite tricky.
In English the girls began sorting vocabulary into their respective word classes to discover that some words belong to more than one group, which are called homonyms. To help their understanding of onomatopoeia they listened to a series of emotional songs. After completing a cut and paste matching activity and reading an emotional poem, they were ready to compose their own.
The new RE topic for this half term is understanding what it means to be a Christian, so the girls began by constructing a spider diagram to show all the different ways they can help others.
Although it was only a four-day week Prep 4 produced some wonderful project work on the theme of Celebrations. I would like to mention Olivia who produced a very professional looking PowerPoint presentation following her research into different celebrations around the world.
Although it’s always very difficult to choose, my Prep 4 Stars for this week are: Alice G, Eme, Jessica, Erin K, and Wenqi
Alice G for excellent English sorting words into classes, together with accurate maths calculations, beautifully presented. Alice is also up to date with all her MyMaths activities, despite being in the process of moving house.
Eme for her wonderful celebrations project work after watching a CBBC video on Eid and Easter. Also for working so hard to making significant progress learning times tables and associated division facts.
Jessica for sharing her outstanding musical ability in addition to working so diligently to successfully complete each home-schooling task. Jessica’s poem is written about her experiences climbing Catbells in Cumbria on numerous occasions.
Erin K for her amazing celebration project work on Bastille Day held in France, complete with illustrations and photographs. Erin also took to the internet to research the Chinese Moon Festival and even made her very own paper lantern.
Wenqi for producing beautiful cursive handwriting, taking care to make capital letters the correct size. She was also successful completing the maths activity, estimating and then calculating using the formal written method of column addition.
