Prep 7 Blog Class Blog Week Beginning 15th June
We have been delighted this week to welcome back several more Prep 7 girls. They have settled in so well – it’s as if they have never been away!
In English this week we have been reading short stories and narrative poems and the girls enjoyed watching Stanley Holloway performing, ‘The Lion and Albert by Marriott Edgar’. They learnt some Northern dialect words and felt bemused that Albert’s parents appeared less upset by the death of their son than by the fact that he had been wearing his Sunday best clothes!
The girls have been honing their skills with a pair of compasses during their Maths lessons and they have created and coloured some pretty patterns, learning facts about circles at the same time.
Our RE topic has been the feast of Corpus Christi and Advika produced a beautiful drawing of the Last Supper (see below).
The special topic this week has been Sport, and on Wednesday, the girls practised taking their own pulse in the classroom before going out for a workout with Mrs Gillespie and Mrs Mullan. They were interested to see how much their pulse rate had increased with exercise. The topic has also inspired some excellent work.
Alisha took on the challenge of creating an orienteering map of the garden and Wendy researched and illustrated her sporting hero, Michael Phelps. See both pieces of work below.
Olivia Mc was inspired by last week’s French lesson on pirates and extended her Treasure Map work by creating a 3-D map at home (see below). This week in French, we revised pet animals and colours. The girls’ task then was to create new pets, combining two animals and coining a new French word. We had some scary-looking combinations! And there has to be a mention of Autumn’s delightful French accent.
We look forward to what arrives next week from our amazing girls!
